Crunchy Toffee Popcorn – #NationalPopcornDay


Today is National Popcorn Day! (01.19.18)

What better excuse to tuck into some homemade crunchy toffee popcorn. Add a little extra to your Friday night Netflix binge with these tasty treats.



  • 250g butter
  • 450g dark brown soft sugar
  • 7 tablespoons golden syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 bag of Microwave popcorn


PRODUCT REQUIRED: Mr. Whipstir Whisk



In a medium saucepan over medium heat – add butter, brown sugar and golden syrup.


Stir and Whisk until mixture is nice and brown. Bring to the boil, stirring constantly.


Boil without stirring 4 minutes.


Remove from heat and whisk in bicarb and vanilla.


Place popcorn in a very large bowl. Pour the mixture over popcorn, stirring to coat.


Preheat oven to 120 C / Gas 1/2.  Place in a shallow baking dish and bake in preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes, for 1 hour.


Remove from oven and let it cool completely before tasting.
